While other boards may be suffering from the same dilemma, it has come to my direct attention for some time now that threads are becoming far too inundated with spam.

Be it your typical reaction image with a funny comment, mass bumps, random irrelevant arguments--I believe it is becoming way too common. I don't think using the iron fist of moderating is the correct action, but us mods can't keep up with the thread cleaning, which is a shame because our energy would be better spent towards organizing the catalog.

So other than adding more mods, what would paws users prefer? Heavier moderation (deleting spam and banning the user for a certain time, specifically in threads with regularly updated content), or as it is now (irregular to no moderation)?

Laissez-faire! We're all adults here; we don't need moderating!

lol I dunno, I really think it should be a case-by-case type deal. But I understand how reading through mountains of text just to sort out the intentions behind why posters are doing what they're doing could be tedious and time-consuming. So I'd say just go light on the moderation. If you scroll through a thread and see the same thing posted over and over again like "bump" or "sage" or "no u", then just delete that. But if some ridiculously irrelevant conversation arises, just let it go.

The boards do need a few more mods, but those mods need strict non dickish rules. No-one likes nazi mods.

The best thing about this site currently it the sensible approach to DNP and not "oMgZ BaNz for DNP" but a few rules I would have would be.

1: Reaction/MFW images kept to dis.

2: Content threads and boards should be kept for content, any dis/critique/Adv Topics will be moved to dis till other boards show up.

3:No posting personal info about other users

4:No Trolling

bleh its late so I cant think, but I'm sure you could add more but the basic Idea is:

More mods = Good
Less spam = Good
Nazi mods = Do not want

I go to paws over lulz because lulz advertising is so terrible and I don't want to have to use FireFox with adblock to view a site normally.

The irregular moderation is alright, but for instance on the LITTLE BUDDY thread; there's was so much original meme content there. "It breaks off when you touch it" "It glows when you touch it" I was rolling in laughter. The next day, all the content was gone and I was left with just the porn and no laughs! Now the OC is lost forever due to moderation.

Thank God I have a dynamic IP! Power cycle and more reaction images!

I understand that waiting a week for updates is boring and a fun way to pass the time is to fill the thread with cute critiques of the comic, however that isn't main purpose of the thread. I have always felt that paws should remain an archive for people who want to view porn--not a collection of 600 post threads filled with discussion, and 15-25 intermittent porn images.

What we can do is open two threads--one in /fc/ and one in /dis/ of the same comic or other content, and thus in /dis/ you can have all the spam you want, but in /fc/ the thread stays pristine. This can be easily arranged, and I believe is a win-win.
No. 11659
>>11658

To add, this wouldn't be done to every thread, as that would be a nightmare to do. Just certain hot threads that have a lot of enthusiastic posters. It mostly applies to weekly updated comics in /fc/, since in /m/ and /f/ content is dumped in an organized fashion and then discussion follows.

Too bad you can't assign micro-moderators who could just delete crap from individual threads only. Also, /f/ is becoming inundated with toon. Not necessarily a bad thing, but its starting to look like it needs its own board.

THIS guy gets it. I love all of the comments and discussion that happens ALONGSIDE the porn. Its like the extras on a DVD. If you don't want the extras, just use Downloadthemall(Addon for Firefox)OR just get the porn manually and get the fuck out. By posting complaints about how there's too much chatter, your actually ADDING to the mess, feeding the trolls and pushing the thread further off-topic.

Just be cool, fap, and enjoy the serious critique peppered with lulz and reactions.
Thats what an imageboard is all about.

Make a random board, not ripping off 4chan or any other chan board, but a random board for all the spam, which should 404 pretty fast. After making that, direct everyone who wants to QQ, baw, spam, and troll to it. In the case of spam on other boards, crack down hard on em.

Sup Mew? It's Jay from the Aurorafurries. I never knew you were a mod here! Haha. Anyways I figured I'd give ya a few tips I've picked up from running U-18chan. First off we have a recent posts list for all staff. This shows all posts from all boards in the order they were posted in, it makes it very easy to stay ok top of everything. Literaly every post there is read at least once by a staff member. We also have a zero tolerance policy on spam. If you do it, you will be permanently banned. Spammers have absolutely no interest in the board other then hoping they can get a few suckers to follow their links. This has been working just fine for us so far, about a year and a half I guess. If you can't get a recent posts page, then maybe you should hire a small army of janitors who can only report posts. That way whenever a moderator is online they can check the reported posts and decide weather or not they should be removed or banned. Best of luck and I hop you are getting extra visitors from the banner on our site! X3

I've used this board's software before and it should support janitor accounts, which is exactly what you described: they're basically sub-mods who can only delete whatever content they want on the boards; they can also send ban requests to mods that automatically take precedence over regular user reports.
A few of those wouldn't hurt at all.

It's simple, eliminate the problem. The problem being trolls. Eliminating them being banning them. This is gradeschool thinking mang.

The flash board is really bad. You(any mods reading this really) should go have a look at the Cream threads. There was trolling in the Krystal one too if I recall correctly but I haven't checked in forever. 2012 release and etc.

Whether you ban permanently or temporary, as long as they know you mean business it's all good.

Furry boards have the most obvious and horrible udnerage b& i've ever seen. Then again, i've ran into some really fucking stupid furries before. Furries are like black people. The bad drown out the good.
No. 11833
How about adding a new board? Making a request/artist board would be useful. Seeing as many threads in the other boards are dedicated to a particular artist's work or requests for site-rips and comics. That would free up a lot of space in /f/. Not sure about /m/ or /fc/ though.
No. 12084
We don't need to divide the art boards any further when the current ones move so slowly. The best solution to the spam would be to add a no-rules board and then start heavily moderating all the other boards.

On the art boards, delete every post that doesn't directly relate to the art, it'd be so nice if you could browse through the threads and see pictures without having to scroll over pages and pages of words.

It'd be a win win win, when you want to spam and troll and argue with people you can do it in the unmoderated board, when you want to have a polite conversation you can do it in discussion, and when you just want to trade art you can go to the art boards.

rather then just delete it, cause they keep coming back. The internet seems to be rampent with free speech and all that jazz. What is needed is free speech taken away completely where what the mod says is law, sure you can't just send a black sedan to their home and make them "disappear" but you can rob them of their rights, even if they use proxies just go after the same style of posts.

this time it doesn't, no matter how hard you try bro. What I said was have the trolls who've clearly been banned from other sites, well honestly, killed and dispose of their bodies.... but that's something more in my line of work at langley.

So since murder wasn't a clear option here in this case. I said all posts by trolls should be warped and changed to mean what the mod wants it too... That's called The media.... not the police.

I'm a lurker @ lulz.net, but come here more frequently simply because it's far more civilised, and at the same time more laid back. I'm sure I've spotted some noobs around posting, which is a good sign.

The basic lulz crowd are seriously asspained, projecting drama-whores that are CONSTANTLY trying to stir shit about innocuous things for no reason, in some sort of bizarre furtroll pissing contest to see who's the biggest, most vocally impenetrable tard.

So, TLDR: lulz has far too little OC, far too much neurotic BAWWing.

Seriously, you guys have got a nice place here.

Exactly. When you put a hundred trolls in one place, they spend so much time trying to one-up each other that it's pretty much /b/ wherever it happens. On Lulz' /furi/, *occasionally* someone will start a thread asking for or posting furry art or porn, but in less than ten posts it devolves into memes, bitching, and trolling the OP.

Yeah, we get nothing even close to that. Thank goodness. I can go find any thread in any of the art boards and stand a likely chance of it being at least 75% art. I don't mind the 25% chatter at all.

>So other than adding more mods, what would paws users prefer?

But this is the answer! More eyes and hands to do things. The problem isn't the strength of moderation you guys use, it's that there ether aren't enough mods or they simply aren't doing their job.

I like the over light handed mod attitude on this board. It fit well with this user base, increasing the harshness of the moderation will drive a good portion of your user base off site and allowing spam to overwhelm this board will do the same. What you need are more eyes and hands, not draconian policy which likely wont even work. Spam will ALWAYS find away around your efforts. The best thing you can do is delete it as fast as you can, which will require more people with mod powers.

Also, I think having some mods on your team which do nothing but try to protect their own work is bullshit. If they don't want to be an actual part of this site then they shouldn't be mods. Just my 0.02$

A concern troll is a false flag pseudonym created by a user whose actual point of view is opposed to the one that the user claims to hold. The concern troll posts in web forums devoted to its declared point of view and attempts to sway the group's actions or opinions while claiming to share their goals, but with professed "concerns". The goal is to sow fear, uncertainty and doubt within the group.

An example of this occurred in 2006 when Tad Furtado, a top staffer for then-Congressman Charles Bass (R-NH), was caught posing as a "concerned" supporter of Bass's opponent, Democrat Paul Hodes, on several liberal New Hampshire blogs, using the pseudonyms "IndieNH" or "IndyNH". "IndyNH" expressed concern that Democrats might just be wasting their time or money on Hodes, because Bass was unbeatable.

Although the term "concern troll" originated in discussions of online behavior, it now sees increasing use to describe similar behaviors that take place offline.

For example, James Wolcott of Vanity Fair accused a conservative New York Daily News columnist of "concern troll" behavior in his efforts to downplay the Mark Foley scandal. Wolcott links what he calls concern trolls to Saul Alinsky's "Do-Nothings", giving a long quote from Alinsky on the Do-Nothings' method and effects:

“ These Do-Nothings profess a commitment to social change for ideals of justice, equality, and opportunity, and then abstain from and discourage all effective action for change. They are known by their brand, 'I agree with your ends but not your means.'”

In a more recent example, The Hill published an op-ed piece by Markos Moulitsas of the liberal blog Daily Kos titled "Dems: Ignore 'Concern Trolls' ". Again, the concern trolls in question were not Internet participants; they were Republicans offering public advice and warnings to the Democrats. The author defines "concern trolling" as "offering a poisoned apple in the form of advice to political opponents that, if taken, would harm the recipient".

It's all pretty amusing to me, but I don't depend on this site or furry porn for that matter.

Wait, if you're not into furry porn then why are you here?

>>15147 Since I'm just a casual viewer of furries I don't feel like taking time to search through all the mixed up 'request' threads, duplacate threads and 'dump' threads.
That's really the only thing that bugs me about this site. But can't complain, I still like it.

>>> til you came and stired the pot.

Yeah uh, sorry about that. Did not expect this kind of response.
No. 15153
I mean I expected it'd be pretty easy to piss the guy off, I just didn't anticipate the whole venting the rage on the entire site.

Oh well, mods will check in eventually.
No. 15154
All of that was contained in /dis/

If you're talking about old tired, or stupid threads getting bumped for no reason, well that has been going on for a couple wheeks now, nothing to do with these threads.

And speeking of spambumping, it seems more disruptive to the active threads that anything.
Now people are having to find lost threads and bump those back up.

then why you so mad?

A new set of rules would bring back what the majority of the site was intended for, rather than as the bland off topic mess it is now:
1. Only images on topic or directly related (not commentary) to the thread subject matter are allowed. Edited images are only acceptable if edits are not commentary. To clarify, "derp" images are commentary images.
2. Commentary text posts are not allowed. These include:
Commentary on the artist in an unrelated manner (i.e. gossip).
Critiques could be allowed, providing it is asked for or it is done without malicious or hostile intent.
Posts addressing another poster that do not relate to the topic.
Asking where the artist can be found, to post more art, and responding to these in a to the point manner are acceptable.
3. Bumping is allowed for a max of 3 times a month, or perhaps longer. 9 consecutive bumps with no new content and the thread gets locked. Allowing image based bumps are up to site moderation's discretion.

There may be more rules that could be applied, but these three would eliminate the majority of the clutter. /dis/ is an entirely other matter though.

Rules are kind of pointless without mods to enforce them.

AHHHHHHHA PRUDES EVERYWHERE!

Forum rules are only there to protect ppl that have no sence of humor, such as >>15260
Nobody else is butthurt around here but you.

You should spend you time posting content, insted of flaming the trolls.

This sort of thing would belong in /dis/, hardly a prudish move.
A lack of content steeped in unnecessary commentary like this defeats the purpose of the site and makes it generic and in many ways pointless.
Is it a good thing that fchan is more effective than paws at the delivery of content, even with the DNP list?

If you like it there so much better, then why do you stay here, just to flame and 'appear' smarter than everyone else?

Your smug attitude disgusts me!
No. 15270
This site was much, much, much better than fchan for finding fresh content about a year ago, but then it got too popular, and now the staff have abandoned it.
No. 15315
You can only have nice things without moderation as long as you have small enough user base. It does not tale a lot of soppam to make things boring. Male/Gay is not worth posting content any more and I expect other boards do not last long.

So, did coldlust provoke someone over there or what?

Too bad this doesn't work like Craigslist where you can flag spam so it gets deleted by users
insted of moderators.

Surely it's not being done manually, maybe by a program or some crap. Maybe add a captcha for a while and see if it stops it?

I guess we dont have that here....
90% of /m/ is gone. Its horrible. we need to find the perpetrator and make him suffer!
