1287 No. 1287 watch
In response to one of the guys on the /flash board, if they were going to surrender, why would you nuke their civilians?
No. 1290
Because we had the bombs designed already, Truman (our president after Franklin D. Roosevelt) was like "Hey, y'know what? Let's try these new bombs out and give the public a good excuse." Well, Truman told us "If we use these, we're gonna save American lives!" (there would obviously have been a high death toll if we tried to invade Japan), now, we did this despite the fact that Japan was close to surrendering. Hell, we wouldn't have even needed to invade! Now, Japan was pretty much screwed, they had almost no supplies, Russia was looming on taking Manchuria (which the Japanese had captured and set a puppet government in) and America was gonna have none of that! (cause, you know, America was all "NO COMMIES"), Japan had lost their foothold in the South Pacific, militarily, they were screwed. So, we dropped nukes anyways, not only to 'save American lives' but to "scare the commies!".

They scared the shit out of Stalin and he was like,
"Dude, we need some of those, CCCP steals nuke plans, arms race starts, welcome to the Cold War.

Meanwhile, the US steals the golden Lily treasure from Japan (who stole it from China). They then launder the money, and use it to finance death squads, purchase perjured testimony, commit acts of terror and subvert democracy, all under the lie of protecting against the communists.

lol bartimaeus, GG.

...

Many thanks to PYK for moving this thread (I was the one who suggested it)! Tangential question at this point: I wonder how many of the people responsible for the decision of dropping the bombs actually had any idea of the magnitude of the effect before the bombs were actually dropped?

I can imagine Truman and his advisers now,
"We should drop the bombs.", "NO! If we do, some people who are strangely attracted to anthropomorphic animals will argue over some 60 years from now." "Oh shi- we better not."

Because they foresaw the coming of anime, gothic lolita, pocky, and fucked up television. It was America's last best chance to stave off the threat. A noble effort, but sadly insufficient.

for the same reason you bomb civilians

you have to go back to when the object of war was to destroy the other side completely, however before artillery planes and bombs you had to kill the standing armies first to get to the cities

well after the battle finished the army would destroy the town, burning and raping as they went, they would take over the town and use it's resources and survives to help the conquering country.

thats when the siege engines was invented, now generals could say, hey, lets fight the army and while we do that we can lob shit at them and their people from real far away

however, the enemy army had to defend itself, and they adopt the attacker's strategies until eventually the whole world races for technology

as war progressed and technology went from swords to guns from catapults to cannon and artillery, it became easier to kill the enemies people only if you could stop the army which had the same stuff

slowly war becomes less about killing people and more about killing the defenses

thats when planes came into the picture, now armies didn't matter, you could just fly over and see the world

well soon after arms racing and war profiteering planes enter world war 1 from both sides

each side develops planes to kill anything below them or opposing them in the air by world war two, and cities become the easiest and prime targets

fir bombs, tallboys, napalm, bombs of all kinds to destroy everything

then when the nuke came out it was a no brainier, it was just another bomb to be dropped to Truman

and thus the atomic age, overall, the power of the weapons at this point makes actual takeover imposable today without destroying the world.

they were not going to surrender, not even after the first bomb. it took a failed military coup before they finally surrendered after nagasaki.

they chose hiroshima and nagasaki because they were building missile and bomb parts there.

let's also not forget that the japanese massacred millions of chinese civilians during an ethnic cleansing campaign. it was important to stop the japanese government.

fucking little mongrel kids, go to fucking school.

You were doing well at looking like a reasonable person until the last line.

there were a variety of reason for the nuclear strikes. yes, it was partially to scare off the soviets, which they did thank god or else we would have west/east japan. it saved approximately 4 million lives. hiroshima was a military target, but nagasaki could be considered a war crime (lol, ww2). funny thing about that though is that fire bombings kill way more civilians that both bombs combined.

and no, there wasn't a guarantee of surrender before the first strike. between them, though, they were deliberating and one of them said to the japanese press that they were waiting for a verdict or something. well, the word he used had 2 different meanings and the other was we will not give up or something. national press printed it, the US heard about it and then freedom bomb #2 came out.

Spotting trolls: it's a skill acquired by many hard hours spent honing one's e-penor.

Pwning trolls: reducing them to "shut the fuck up you ____". Because it's clear you're smarter than they are by this point.

Along with scaring the commies (lol my name) you also have to consider the amount of time and money we invested into making the damned things.

Wow, I've actually given up using this handle for the most part, but I think I'll use it just one more time just so you know that this thread is older than fuck, and everyone has long since stopped caring about it.

Learn to read the fucking dates. Seriously.
